Just released - Low Cost, High Feature Compact PLC.

Tuesday, October 14, 2008
Siemens have further expanded its extensive range of PLC CPUs with the release of the IM151-8F PN/DP safety CPU. This CPU is ideal for small to medium size automation applications and has been eagerly adopted by ICT. It can support several thousand inputs and outputs and comes with an inbuilt 3 port Ethernet switch.

This 3 port Ethernet switch allows a wide range of connection options including:
• Connection to remote I/O via PROFINET
• Connection to Operator Panel / SCADA
• Connection to PLC programmer via Ethernet link (e.g. local programming using laptop PC) or via LAN to remote programmer (e.g. desktop PC in maintenance workshop).

Other features of this CPU include:
• Low cost
• Small physical size
• Standard or safety I/O and control functions or a combination
• Programming with Step 7 as used for S7300 and S7400
• Simple DIN rail mounting

For safety applications, the PLC can be configured / programmed using Simatic Step 7 Distributed Safety and complies with Safety Requirements up to SIL 3 (IEC61508) and Cat. 4 (EN 954-1/ AS4024.1). This enables safety requirements to be satisfied in a cost effective manner on the same platform as the general automation requirements.

The Simatic ET200S range of “granular” I/O modules can be directly coupled to the IM151-8F CPU making the CPU extremely cost effective for small applications and giving total flexibility of I/O module requirements. For larger applications, the wide range of connectivity options allow the system to be readily expanded.
