A decade-long site relationship – still going strong

Thursday, August 07, 2008
In 1997, ICT undertook the design and implementation of process control systems for a large green fields process plant for a well-known national dairy foods processor. This project was completed under a demanding time schedule by taking advantage of state of the art S88 batch control technology. This project led the way as one of the first S88 batch implementations in Australia.

Since that time, our client has continued to expand and introduce new products to the market, requiring ongoing upgrades, enhancements and re-configurations. ICT has provided ongoing support throughout that period, servicing the varying resource requirements, establishing a strong client partnership approach and a site relationship that delivers big benefits to our client. Our ongoing close relationship helps ensure in-depth knowledge of the site and understanding of the plant systems and processes. This enables us to deliver intelligent, fast turnaround solutions in an industry that relies on speedy response to market changes.

The main process area is controlled by 20 large PLCs and has over 120 S88 equipment units using in excess of 330 phases. ICT's work here has a particular focus on batch food processes and the integration of batch software in accordance with the S88 standard. This includes CIP (clean in place) and the integration of double-seat valves and other types of hygienic valves as commonly used in the food, dairy and pharmaceutical industries.

The ICT team works closely with the client's own engineering, maintenance and operations personnel. Jointly they work to ensure that all requirements (including regulatory) are effectively addressed and that every solution is carefully considered in relation to costs and potential impact on production.. This includes the evaluation of third-party process components to allow their effective integration to meet CIP, process and production requirements.

We look forward to taking this customer/ site relationship through the next decade.

Sharing Machine Safety Knowledge
ICT has been active over many years in sharing its knowledge and experience in the developing field of machine safety. International organisation MarcusEvans conferences organised a national machinery safety and asset integrity forum at the Hilton Hotel Melbourne on 14-15th April 2011. The aim of the conference was to “discuss the most recent developments, key challenges and future trends of machine and equipment safety for fixed plants, furthermore to get organisations to understand the efforts it takes from the organisations as a whole to succeed in safety initiatives to avoid costly operational interruptions and workplace incidents and accidents.”   Read More
